About UsAbout Juniperra BeveragesWe are a beverage company based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, founded in March 2017. The goal of Juniperra Beverages is to bring the best traditional drinks of the world to market. We believe the best drinks may be found in roadside stands and backwoods holes-in-the-wall, made by mom and pop, Abuelita, or Babushka. Our NameJuniperra is a portmanteau of Junípero Serra, the patron saint and apostle of California. Born Miquel Josep Serra in Majorca, Spain, he became a Franciscan priest and took the name Junípero along with his vows of poverty. He focused most of his early effort on education, eventually earning his doctorate in theology, while also studying heavily in logic, philosophy, Latin, metaphysics, and cosmology. After spending a few years as an educator, he decided it was his calling to help spread the gospel to the natives of the New World. He dedicated his life to this goal, and despite enormous risk, pain, blood, sweat, and tears, he was singularly committed to his aim. He founded California by establishing the mission system along the coast. To us, California represents a convergence of many cultures and we hope to embody that spirit and its founder by creating availability for all the best drinks the world has to offer. The FoundersMichael Dediu-WhealeyMichael graduated from UC Berkeley in 2014. Agua De JamaicaOur first product is an Agua de Jamaica, (Pronounced Ha-Mai-Kah) which is known worldwide by many names:Hibiscus Tea Worldwide In the Anglosphere, it is known as Roselle or Hibiscus Tea. In most of Europe, North Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East, it is known as Karkade. In Jamaica and the Carribean, as Sorrel. Almost every region has their own name for this traditional drink. The drink is made by steeping the calyxes of the Hibiscus Roselle flower with a blend of spices. There are as many variations on the recipe as there are people to invent them, but we have developed what we believe to be the finest recipe available. We use only the highest-quality ingredients, and we don’t use any artificial preservatives whatsoever, just Hibiscus flowers and spices. We don’t use anything your grandmother wouldn’t have in her kitchen.Have any more ideas of what beverages we should offer?
